Product information "SAMdevice"

SAMdevices are innovative decentralized data capture units. The energy supply for the sensors, as well as for the data acquisition, manipulation and transmission is provided through a solar panel installed on the housing.


Each SAMdevice can be connected to two external sensors. In addition, the internal temperature, the battery voltage and the signal strength of every SAMdevice is recorded. Every measurement value is recorded in 10-min resolution and contains minimum, maximum and average value, as well as standard deviation.

Measurement values from the SAMdevice sensor are recorded and saved on flash-ring drives. Every 10 minutes, a new data set is created, saved and transmitted to the SAMstation. Should the wireless connection be interrupted, the measurement data will automatically be delivered later, when the connection is available again.

Because of the wireless transmission to the SAMstation the susceptibility to potential differences is minimal and represents an optimal lightning protection.


According to the implementation of the SAMdevices, different sensors, such as anemometers, potentiometric or digital wind vanes, temperature and humidity sensors, wind pressure sensors or radiation sensors. The reach of the wireless connection to the SAMstation is about 150 m.

The SAMdevice are available with the standard memory (about 40 days, in conjunction with the SAMstation) or with the XL memory (about 1 year, in conjunction with the SAMmobile).

SAMdevice Type 1.1

On this type of SAMdevice sensors can be connected which require a 3V power supply and have a pulse output signal (lower connection point). It does not matter in this case whether it is a rectangular or a sinusoidal signal.
The upper connection point is for potentiometric wind direction sensors. Wind direction sensors up to 10kΩ can be connected here. For the use of a digital wind direction sensor with a serial output, please consult us. The wind direction is detected on a vectorial basis and is saved in steps of 1°. Possible problems with arithmetical averages in such readings are taken into account, i.e. values of 1° und 359° produce a reading of 0° and not 180°. Implausible measurement values (for example in the event of a broken cable) are saved as "999".
Both sensors are continuously supplied with power (with measurements by the second) and the total power consumption must not exceed 0.5mA, as otherwise there may be problems with adequate power supply depending on the region.

SAMdevice Type 2.1

On this type of SAMdevice sensors can be connected which require a 9V power supply and have a output signal of 0 – 1V. These are, for example, temperature and humidity sensors. The power supply is timed and is turned on each minute for one second before the measurement takes place. Be aware of compatibility issues with the sensors. The total power consumption must not exceed 7.5mA, as otherwise there may be problems with adequate power supply depending on the region.

SAMdevice Type 3.1

On this type of SAMdevice sensors can be connected which require a 9V power supply and have a output signal of 0 – 5V. These are, for example, barometric pressure sensors. The power supply is timed and is turned on each minute for one second before the measurement takes place. Be aware of compatibility issues with the sensors. The total power consumption must not exceed 7.5mA, as otherwise there may be problems with adequate power supply depending on the region.

SAMdevice Type 4.1

On this type of SAMdevice sensors can be connected which require a 9V power supply and have a output signal of 0 – 5V (connection point A) or an output signal of 0 - 1V (connection point B). These are, for example, temperature and barometric pressure sensors. The power supply is timed and is turned on each minute for one second before the measurement takes place. Be aware of compatibility issues with the sensors. The total power consumption must not exceed 7.5mA, as otherwise there may be problems with adequate power supply depending on the region.

SAMdevice Type 5.1

On this type of SAMdevice sensors can be connected which do not require any power supply and have an output signal of 0 – 100mV. These are, for example, solar irradiance sensors. At connection point B the temperature output of the irradiance sensor can be attached. The power supply is timed and is turned on each minute for one second before the measurement takes place. Be aware of compatibility issues with the sensors. The total power consumption must not exceed 7.5mA, as otherwise there may be problems with adequate power supply depending on the region.
